Williamstone Farm Steadings Insiders Guide to North Berwick.
In this blog series we pass on our local experience to give visitors to the area the tips only locals would know.
The Brand Family at East Fortune Farm, near North Berwick have opened a farm shop, Brand’s Larder. This fantastic store located on their farm stocks much of their own produce from freshly laid eggs to their home reared pork and lamb as well as a variety of fruit and vegetables some of which is grown on the farm by Granny Brand. The home cured bacon, finest pork sausages, lamb chops, steaks and roasts are simply delicious and to compliment these are various items from some of the best local producers. From fresh breads and jams to spice kits, salt rubs, crackers, chocolate and pop corn – there are even treats for pets.
Jane and Grant Brand are 4th generation farmers at East Fortune Farm. This thriving business really is a family affair, with three generations still living and working on the farm. The Brands also run caravan parks on the farm which have been providing relaxing breaks in rural East Lothian since 2002. Located just off the John Muir Way (just along from Merryhatton Garden Centre) the farm offers a real escape and a haven for walkers, cyclists and dog walkers.
The Brands are award winning breeders of Hampshire Down sheep and have just won overall Hampshire Down champion at the Highland Show for the fourth consecutive year! They have recently added a herd of Saddleback pigs to the farm. Jane and Grant take great pride in nurturing their livestock to ensure the highest quality meat is produced. They also have a large free range brood of hens and it is Ritchie and Robert, the 5th generation really leading the way here.
In addition to the caravan parks and farm shop at East Fortune Farm, The Brands have a holiday flat in North Berwick. This lovely beachside haven offers the perfect getaway location for couples or small families and is also dog friendly.
